Solemnity of All Saints

Processional Hymn - 884 - For All the Saints

For all the saints,
who from their labors rest,
All who by faith before the world confessed,
Your name, O Jesus, be forever blest,
Alleluia! Alleluia!

You were their rock, their fortress
and their might;
You, Lord, their Captain
in the well-fought fight;
You, in the darkness drear,
their one true light,
Alleluia! Alleluia!

O may your soldiers, faithful,
true and bold,
Fight as the saints who
nobly fought of old,
And win with them the victor’s
crown of gold.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

O blest communion,
fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one
within your great design.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

First Reading - Rev. 7:2-4, 9-14

I, John, saw another angel come up from the East,
holding the seal of the living God.
He cried out in a loud voice to the four angels
who were given power to damage the land and the sea, “Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand marked from every tribe of the children of Israel. After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne,  and from the Lamb.”

All the angels stood around the throne
and around the elders and the four living creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne, worshiped God, and exclaimed: “Amen.  Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving,
 honor, power, and might be to our God forever and ever.  Amen.” Then one of the elders spoke up and said to me, “Who are these wearing white robes, and where did they come from?”
I said to him, “My lord, you are the one who knows.”
He said to me, “These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb.”

Responsorial Psalm -
Psalm 24

R. O God, this is the people that longs to see your face. (2x)

All the earth is yours, O God;
the world and those who dwell on it.
You founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
R. O God, this is the people that longs to see your face. (2x)

Who can ascend your mountain, God?
or who may stand in this holy place?
Those whose hands are sinless, hearts are clean,
and desire not the vanity of earth.

R. O God, this is the people that longs to see your face. (2x)
They shall receive your blessing, God,
their savior shall reward them
Such is the face that seeks for you,
that seeks your face, O God of Jacob.
R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

Second Reading - 1 John 3:1-3

Beloved:
See what love the Father has bestowed on us
that we may be called the children of God.
Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Beloved, we are God’s children now;
what we shall be has not yet been revealed.
We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.

Gospel - Matthew 5:1-12a

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:

    “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you. and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Offertory Hymn - Saints of God

Saints of God abiding in the arms of mercy, pray for us.

I saw the souls of the saints beneath the altar,
slain for bearing witness to God’s Word,
and each one was robed in white.

Saints of God abiding in the arms of mercy, pray for us.
I saw a multitude from ev’ry land and people
worshipping before the throne of grace,
where all tears are washed away.

Saints of God abiding in the arms of mercy, pray for us.
Since even now this cloud of witnesses
surrounds us,
let us cast aside the weight of sin,
so with them we may run the race.

Saints of God abiding in the arms of mercy, pray for us.

Communion Hymn - 939 - Behold the Lamb of God

Those who were
In the dark are thankful for the sunlight;
We who live,
We who die are grateful for his gift,
Thankful for his love.

Behold, behold the Lamb of God.
All who eat, all who drink will live;
And all, all who dwell in God
Shall come to know his glory.

Peaceful now,
Those whose hearts are blessed with
Understanding of the wheat,
Of the wine united with his word
And the love we share.

Behold, behold the Lamb of God.
All who eat, all who drink will live;
And all, all who dwell in God
Shall come to know his glory.

Gentle one,
Child of God, join with us at this table.
Bless our lives;
Nourish all who hunger for this feast;
Shelter them in peace.

Behold, behold the Lamb of God.
All who eat, all who drink will live;
And all, all who dwell in God
Shall come to know his glory.

Lord of all, give us light.
Deliver us from evil.
Make us one;
Be our shield. Make still the winds that blow; Cradle us with love.

Behold, behold the Lamb of God.
All who eat, all who drink will live;
And all, all who dwell in God
Shall come to know his glory.

Recessional Hymn - 539 - Sing with All the Saints in Glory

Sing with all the saints in glory,
Sing the resurrection song!
Death and sorrow, earth's dark story,
To the former days belong.
All around the clouds are breaking,
Soon the storms of time shall cease;
In God's likeness we awaken,
Knowing everlasting peace.

O what glory, far exceeding
All that eye has yet perceived!
Holiest hearts, for ages pleading,
Never that full joy conceived.
God has promised, Christ prepares it,
There on high our welcome waits.
Ev’ry humble spirit shares it;
Christ has passed th'eternal gates.

Life eternal! heav’n rejoices;
Jesus lives, who once was dead.
Shout with joy, O deathless voices;
Child of God, lift up your head!
Patriarchs from the distant ages,
Saints all longing for their heav’n,
Prophets, psalmists, seers, and sages,
All await the glory giv’n.

Life eternal! O what wonders
Crowd on faith; what joy unknown,
When, amid earth's closing thunders,
Saints shall stand before the throne!
Oh, to enter that bright portal,
See that glowing firmament;
Know, with you, O God Immortal,
Jesus Christ whom you have sent!
