Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Processional Hymn - 846 - Come, Host of Heaven's High Dwelling Place
Come, host of heav'n's dwelling place,
Come, earth's disputed guest;
Find where we meet a welcome home,
Stay here and take your rest.
Surround these walls with faith and love
That through the nights and days,
When human tongues from speaking cease,
These stones may echo praise.
Bless and inspire those gathered here
With patience, hope, and peace,
And all the joys that know the depth
In which all sorrows cease.
Here may a loser find his worth,
The stranger find a friend;
Here may the hopeless find their faith
And aimless find an end.
Build, from the human fabric, signs
Of how your kingdom thrives,
Of how the Holy Spirit changes
Life by changing lives.
So, to the Lord whose care enfolds
The world held in his hands,
Be glory, honor, pow'r and praise
For which this comp'ny stands.
First Reading - Genesis 18:1-10a
The LORD appeared to Abraham by the terebinth of Mamre, as he sat in the entrance of his tent, while the day was growing hot.
Looking up, Abraham saw three men standing nearby.
When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them; and bowing to the ground, he said: “Sir, if I may ask you this favor, please do not go on past your servant.
“Let some water be brought, that you may bathe your feet, and then rest yourselves under the tree.
“Now that you have come this close to your servant, let me bring you a little food, that you may refresh yourselves; and afterward you may go on your way.”
The men replied, “Very well, do as you have said.”
Abraham hastened into the tent and told Sarah, “Quick, three measures of fine flour! Knead it and make rolls.”
He ran to the herd, picked out a tender, choice steer, and gave it to a servant, who quickly prepared it.
Then Abraham got some curds and milk, as well as the steer that had been prepared, and set these before the three men; and he waited on them under the tree while they ate.
They asked Abraham, “Where is your wife Sarah?”
He replied, “There in the tent.”
One of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah will then have a son.”
Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 15
R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.
Whoever walks without fault; who does what is just, and speaks the truth from his heart; whoever does not slander with his tongue.
R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.
Who does no wrong to a neighbor, who cast no slur on a friend, who looks with scorn on the wicked, but honors those who fear the LORD.
R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.
Who lends no money at interest, and accepts no bribes against the innocent.
Such a one shall never be shaken.
R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.
Second Reading - Colossians 1:24-28
Brothers and sisters:
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church, of which I am a minister in accordance with God's stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God, the mystery hidden from ages and from generations past.
But now it has been manifested to his holy ones, to whom God chose to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; it is Christ in you, the hope for glory.
It is he whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
Gospel - Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
“Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
“There is need of only one thing.
“Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”
Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish
Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.
Offertory Hymn - 663 - Lord of All Hopefulness
Lord of all hopefulness,
Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like,
No cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking,
And give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord,
At the break of the day.
Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled
At the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labours,
And give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord,
At the noon of the day.
Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome,
Your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing,
And give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord,
At the eve of the day.
Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment,
Whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping,
And give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord,
At the end of the day.
Communion Hymn - 925 - All Who Hunger
All who hunger gather gladly;
Holy manna is our bread.
Come from wilderness and wand’ring.
Here in truth we will be fed.
You that yearn for days of fullness,
All around us is our food.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.
All who hunger, never strangers;
Seeker, be a welcome guest.
Come from restlessness and roaming.
Here in joy we keep the feast.
We that once were lost and scattered
In communion’s love have stood.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.
All who hunger, sing together,
Jesus Christ is living bread.
Come from loneliness and longing.
Here in peace we have been fed.
Blest are those who from this table
Live their days in gratitude.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.
Recessional Hymn - 636 - Now Thank We All Our God
Now thank we all our God
With hearts and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,
In whom his world rejoices;
Who from our mothers' arms
Has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
And still is ours today.
O may this bounteous God
Through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts
And blessed peace to cheer us,
Preserve us in his grace,
And guide us when in distress,
And free us from all harm
Till heaven we possess.
All praise and thanks to God
The Father now be given,
The Son and him who reigns,
With them in highest heaven
The one eternal God,
Whom heav’n and earth adore;
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.
