Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Processional Hymn - 635 - Let All Things Now Living

Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving
To God the Creator triumphantly raise,
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
And guides us with care to the end of our days.
God's banners are o'er us, God’s light goes before us,
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night.
Till shadows have vanished and darkness is banished
As forward we travel from light into light.

God rules all the forces: the stars in their courses
And sun in its orbit obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The deeps of the ocean proclaim God divine.
We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
With glad adoration a Song let us raise
Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving:
“To God in the highest, Hosanna and praise!”

First Reading - Deuteronomy 30:10-14

Moses said to the people:
“If only you would heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this book of the law, when you return to the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul.
“For this command that I enjoin on you today is not too mysterious and remote for you.
“It is not up in the sky, that you should say, ‘Who will go up in the sky to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?’
“Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?’
No, it is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out.”

Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 69

R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

I pray to you, O LORD, for a time of your favor.
In your great mercy, answer me, O God, with your salvation that never fails.
LORD, answer, for your mercy is kind; in your great compassion turn toward me.
R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

As for me in my poverty and pain, let your salvation, O God, raise me up.
Then I will praise God’s name with a song; I will glorify him with thanksgiving.
R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

The poor when they see it will be glad, and God-seeking hearts will revive;
For the LORD listens to the needy, and does not spur his own in their chains.
R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

For God will bring salvation to Sion, and rebuild the cities of Judah.
The children of his servants shall inherit it; those who love his name shall dwell there.
R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

Second Reading - Colossians 1:15-20

Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him.
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
He is the head of the body, the church.
He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent.
For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things for him, making peace by the blood of his cross through him, whether those on earth or those in heaven.

Gospel - Luke 10:25-37

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law?
“How do you read it?”
He said in reply,
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”
But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.
They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.
A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight.
He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them.
Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him.
‘If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’
Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?”
He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.”
Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Offertory Hymn - 505 - Jesu, Jesu

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.

Kneels at the feet of his friends, silently washes their feet,
Master who pours out himself for them.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.

Neighbors are wealthy and poor, varied in color and race, neighbors are nearby and far away.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.

These are the ones we should serve, these are the ones we should love, all these are neighbors to us and you.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.

Kneel at the feet of our friends, silently washing their feet, this is the way we should live with you.

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you.

Communion Hymn - 696 - Ubi Caritas

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera:
Deus ibi est,
Deus ibi est.

The love of Christ joins us together
Let us rejoice in him,
And in our love and care for all
Now love God in return.

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera
Deus ibi est
Deus ibi est

In true communion let us gather
May all division cease
And in their place be Christ the Lord
Our risen Prince of Peace

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera
Deus ibi est
Deus ibi est

May we who gather at this table
To share the bread of life
Become a sacrament of love
Your healing touch, O Christ

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera
Deus ibi est
Deus ibi est

For those in need make us your mercy
For those oppressed, your might
Make us, your Church, a holy sign
Of justice and new life

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera
Deus ibi est
Deus ibi est

May we one day behold your glory
And see you face to face
Rejoicing with the saints of God
To sing eternal praise

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera
Deus ibi est
Deus ibi est

Recessional Hymn - 744 - As a Fire Is Meant for Burning

As a fire is meant for burning with a bright and warming flame
So the Church is meant for mission, giving glory to God’s name.
As we witness to the Gospel, we would build a bridge of care,
Joining hands across the nations, finding neighbors ev’rywhere.

We are learners; we are teachers; we are pilgrims on the way.
We are seekers; we are givers; we are vessels made of clay.
By our gentle loving actions we should show that Christ is light.
In a humble list’ning Spirit, we would live to God’s delight.

As a green bud in the springtime is a sign of life renewed,
So may we be signs of oneness ‘mid earth’s peoples, many hued.
As a rainbow lights the heavens when a storm is past and gone,
May our lives reflect the radiance of God’s new and glorious dawn.
