Third Sunday of Advent

Processional Hymn - Antiphon and O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

(cantor) Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice, rejoice! Rejoice in the Lord always!

(all) O come, O key of David come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to you Israel.

(cantor) Again I say rejoice!
Indeed, the Lord is near!

(all) O come, O Dayspring from on high,
And cheer us by your drawing nigh,
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadow put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

First Reading - Zephaniah 3:14-18a

Shout for joy, O daughter Zion!
Sing joyfully, O Israel!
Be glad and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem!
The LORD has removed the judgment against you he has turned away your enemies; the King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear.
On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem:
Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged!
The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior; he will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, he will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals.

Responsorial Psalm - Isaiah 12:2-3, 4, 5-6

R. Cry out with joy and gladness, for the LORD is in your midst, the holy one of Israel, cry out, cry out with joy.

God indeed is my Savior, I will never be afraid, my strength and courage is the LORD, my Savior and my song.
R. Cry out with joy and gladness, for the LORD is in your midst, the holy one of Israel, cry out, cry out with joy.

Give thanks and praise the name of God, sing out to all the earth the wondrous deeds that God has done, our Savior and our song.
R. Cry out with joy and gladness, for the LORD is in your midst, the holy one of Israel, cry out, cry out with joy.

Shout with joy, or Zion, for dwelling in your midst is the Holy One of Israel, your Savior and your song.
R. Cry out with joy and gladness, for the LORD is in your midst, the holy one of Israel, cry out, cry out with joy.

Second Reading - Philippians 4:4-7

Brothers and sisters:
Rejoice in the Lord always.
I shall say it again: rejoice!
Your kindness should be known to all.
The Lord is near.
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Gospel - Luke 3:10-18

The crowds asked John the Baptist, “What should we do?”
He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none.
“And whoever has food should do likewise.”
Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”
He answered them, “Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.”
Soldiers also asked him, “And what is it that we should do?”
He told them, “Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages.”

Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ.
John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming.
“I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.
“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
“His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people.

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.
Amen.

Offertory Hymn - Immaculate Mary

Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing;
You reign now in splendor with Jesus our King.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria!

Predestined for Christ by eternal decree,
God willed you both virgin and mother to be.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria!

To you by an angel, the Lord God made known
The grace of the Spirit, the gift of the Son.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria!

Most blest of all women, you heard and believed;
Most blest is the fruit of your womb then conceived.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria!

The angels rejoiced when you brought forth God’s son;
Your joy is the joy of all ages to come.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria!

Communion Hymn - Like a Shepard

Like a shepherd, he feeds his flock
And gathers the lambs in His arms,
Holding them carefully close to His heart,
Leading them home.

Say to the cities of Judah:
Prepare the way of the Lord.
Go to the mountaintop, lift your voice:
Jerusalem, here is our God.

Like a shepherd, he feeds his flock
And gathers the lambs in His arms,
Holding them carefully close to His heart,
Leading them home.

I myself will shepherd them,
For others have led them astray.
The lost I will rescue and heal their wounds
And pasture them, giving them rest.

Like a shepherd, he feeds his flock
And gathers the lambs in His arms,
Holding them carefully close to His heart,
Leading them home.

Come unto me if you are heavily burdened,
And take my yoke up on your shoulders.
I will give you rest.

Like a shepherd, he feeds his flock
And gathers the lambs in His arms,
Holding them carefully close to His heart,
Leading them home.

Recessional Hymn - Creator of the Stars of Night

Creator of the stars of night,
Your people’s everlasting light,
O Christ, Redeemer of us all,
We pray you, hear us when we call.

In sorrow that the ancient curse
Should doom to death a universe,
You came, O Savior, to set us free
Your own glorious liberty.

When the old world drew on toward night,
You came, but not in splendor bright,
Not as a monarch, but the child
Of Mary, blameless mother mild.

At your great name, O Jesus now,
All knees must bend, all hearts must bow;
All things on earth with one accord
Like those in heav’n shall call you Lord.

Come in your holy might, we pray,
Redeem us for eternal day;
Defend us while we dwell below
From all assaults of our dread foe.

To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One,
Praise, honor, might, and glory be
From age to age eternally.
