Second Sunday of Advent

Processional Hymn - Even So Come

All of creation all of the earth
Make straight a highway a path for the Lord
Jesus is coming soon

Call back the sinner wake up the saint
Let ev'ry nation shout of Your fame
Jesus is coming soon

Like a bride waiting for her groom
We'll be a Church ready for You
Ev'ry heart longing for our King we sing
Even so come Lord Jesus come
Even so come Lord Jesus come

There will be justice all will be new
Your name forever faithful and true
Jesus is coming soon

So we wait we wait for You
God we wait You're coming soon
So we wait we wait for You
God we wait You're coming soon

Like a bride waiting for her groom
We'll be a Church ready for You
Ev'ry heart longing for our King we sing
Like a bride waiting for her groom
We'll be a Church ready for You
Ev'ry heart longing for our King we sing
Even so come Lord Jesus come
Even so come Lord Jesus come

First Reading - Baruch 5:1-9

Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery; put on the splendor of glory from God forever: wrapped in the cloak of justice from God, bear on your head the mitre that displays the glory of the eternal name.
For God will show all the earth your splendor: you will be named by God forever the peace of justice, the glory of God’s worship.
Up, Jerusalem! stand upon the heights; look to the east and see your children gathered from the east and the west at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing that they are remembered by God.
Led away on foot by their enemies they left you: but God will bring them back to you borne aloft in glory as on royal thrones.
For God has commanded that every lofty mountain be made low, and that the age-old depths and gorges be filled to level ground, that Israel may advance secure in the glory of God.
The forests and every fragrant kind of tree have overshadowed Israel at God’s command; for God is leading Israel in joy by the light of his glory, with his mercy and justice for company.

Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 126

R. The Lord has done great things for us. We are filled with joy. Yes, we are filled with Joy.

Second Reading - Philippians 1:4-6, 8-11

Brothers and sisters:
I pray always with joy in my every prayer for all of you, because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it
until the day of Christ Jesus.
God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.

Gospel - Luke 3:1-6

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.
John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:

A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.
Amen.

Offertory Hymn - Prepare the Way of the Lord

Prepare the way prepare the way
Prepare the way of the Lord

Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus

You are the light of the world
You are the light of the world
You are the light of the world Jesus

You are the King of the earth

You are the King of the earth Jesus

Communion Hymn - City of God

You're the God of this city
You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation
You are
You're the light in this darkness
You're the hope to the hopeless
You're the peace to the restless
You are

There is no one like our God
There is no one like You God

Greater things have yet to come
And greater things have still to be done
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things have still to be done here

You're the Lord of creation
The Creator of all things
You're the King above all kings
You are
You're the strength in the weakness
You're the love to the broken
You're the joy in the sadness
You are

Greater things have yet to come
And greater things have still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for You and love for You
In this city

Recessional Hymn - Prepare the Way

He has come
To bring light into the darkness
He has come
To bring freedom to the captives
He has come
To restore the brokenhearted
It's time to proclaim
The year of the Lord

Prepare the way (prepare the way)
Prepare the way for our Redeemer
Prepare the way (prepare the way)
Prepare the way for our Restorer
Make ready your heart
Make ready your home
Make ready the people of God
(Prepare the way)

He has come
To bring hope to the hopeless
He has come
To comfort all who mourn
He has come
To heal our ev'ry sickness
It's time to proclaim
The year of the Lord
