Opening Song - Rest on Us

As the Spirit was moving over the water
Spirit come move over us
Come rest on us come rest on us

Come down Spirit when You move
You make my heart pound
When You fill the room
You're here and I know You are moving
I'm here and I know You will fill me

Fire and wind come and do it again
Open up the gates let Heaven on in
Come rest on us come rest on us

(Bridge)
Holy Spirit
Come rest on us
You're all we want
You're all we want

Lord God, heavenly king,
O God, Almighty Father.

Lord, Jesus Christ,
Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
You take away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us.
You take away the sins of the world,

with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen, amen

First Reading - Numbers 11:25-29

The LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied.

Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp.
They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp.
So, when a young man quickly told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp,” Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’ aide, said, “Moses, my lord, stop them.”
But Moses answered him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!
Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!”

ALL: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm -
Psalm 19

R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
the decree of the LORD is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever;
the ordinances of the LORD are true,
all of them just.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

Though your servant is careful of them,
very diligent in keeping them,
yet who can detect failings?
Cleanse me from my unknown faults!
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

From wanton sin especially, restrain your servant;
let it not rule over me.
Then shall I be blameless and innocent
of serious sin.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

Second Reading -
James 5:1-6

Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries.
Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten,
your gold and silver have corroded,
and that corrosion will be a testimony against you;
it will devour your flesh like a fire.
You have stored up treasure for the last days.
Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers
who harvested your fields are crying aloud;
and the cries of the harvesters
have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.
You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure;
you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter.
You have condemned;
you have murdered the righteous one;
he offers you no resistance.

The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation

R: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Gospel -
Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

Priest or Deacon: The Lord be with you.
ALL: And with your spirit.

Priest/Deacon: A reading from the Gospel according to Mark.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord (while make a small sign of the Cross on the forehead, lips, and chest).

At that time, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”
Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us.
Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’”

The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily (please sit)

Nicene Creed (please stand)

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

General Intercessions:

After each prayer, respond: Lord, hear our prayer.

Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Offertory Song - Your Words are Spirit and Life

Your words are spirit and life, O Lord
Richer than gold, stronger than death
Your words are spirit and life, O Lord
Life everlasting

  1. God’s law is perfect, refreshing the soul
    Reviving the weary spirit
    God’s rule can be trusted:
    bringing us wisdom
    Bringing God’s wisdom to birth

  2. God’s precepts keep us;
    their purpose is right.
    They gladden the hearts of people.
    God’s command is so clear
    it brings us new vision;
    bringing God’s light to our eyes.

  3. Living by God’s truth is holy and sure
    God’s presence is everlasting
    God’s truth is eternal,
    bringing us justice
    Bringing God’s justice to earth

  4. God’s word is precious,
    desired more than gold
    Worth more than we dare imagine
    And, sweeter than honey,
    this word will feed us
    Bringing fulfilment and joy

Invitation to Communion

Communion Song 1 - Lord, I Need You

Lord I come, I confess;
Bowing here, I find my rest.
Without You, I fall apart;
You're the one that guides my heart. (refrain)

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You;
Every hour, I need You.
My one defense, my righteousness,
Oh God, how I need You.

Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more;
Where grace is found, is where You are;
And where You are, Lord, I am free,
Holiness is Christ in me. (refrain)

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way,
And when I cannot stand, I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay. (refrain)

My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Communion 2 - O Come to the Altar

Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

Oh what a Savior
Isn't he wonderful
Sing alleluia Christ is risen
Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia Christ is risen

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you've found

Closing Song - The Lord’s Prayer

Father let your kingdom come (holy holy)
Father let your will be done
On Earth as in Heaven (let it be done)
Right here in my heart

Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned
Against us forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let your kingdom come

(Bridge)
It's yours it's yours
All yours all yours
The kingdom the power
The glory are yours
It's yours it's yours
All yours all yours
Forever and ever
The kingdom is yours

On Earth as in Heaven
Right here in my heart
