Processional Hymn - Praise to the Lord, The Almighty

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation!
All you who hear; now to his temple draw near,
Praise him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things is wondrously reigning;
And, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining.
Have you not seen all you have needful has been
Met by his gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you;
Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
Who with his love does befriend you.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him.
Let the “Amen” sound from his people again;
Gladly with praise we adore him.

First Reading - Numbers 11:25-29

The LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses.
Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied.

Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp.
They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp.
So, when a young man quickly told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp,” Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’ aide, said, “Moses, my lord, stop them.”
But Moses answered him, “Are you jealous for my sake?
Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!
Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!”

Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 19

R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The law of the LORD is perfect, it revives the soul;
The decrees of the LORD are steadfast, they give wisdom to the simple.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The fear of the LORD is pure, abiding forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true, they are, all of them, just.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

So in them your servant finds instruction; great reward is in their keeping,
But who can detect their own errors?
From hidden faults acquit me.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

From presumption, restrain your servant; may it not rule me.
Then shall I be blameless, clean from grave sin.
R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

Second Reading - James 5:1-6

Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries.
Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire.
You have stored up treasure for the last days.
Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.
You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter.
You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance.

Gospel - Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

At that time, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”
Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us.
Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’”

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.
Amen.

Communion Hymn - You Satisfy the Hungry Heart

You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

As when the shepherd calls his sheep,
They know and heed his voice;
So when You call your family Lord,
We follow and rejoice.
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

With joyful lips, we sing to You
Our praise and gratitude,
That You should count us worthy, Lord,
To share this heav’nly food.
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

Is not the cup we bless and share
The blood of Christ outpoured?
Do not one cup, one loaf, declare
Our oneness in the Lord?
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
come give to us o saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

The myst’ry of Your presence Lord,
No mortal tongue can tell;
Whom all the world cannot contain
Comes in our hearts to dwell.
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

You give yourself to us, O Lord;
Then selfless let us be,
To serve each other in Your name
In truth and charity.
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
Come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

Recessional Hymn - God Whose Purpose Is to Kindle

God, whose purpose is to kindle,
Now ignite us with your fire.
While the earth awaits your burning,
With your passion us inspire.
Overcome our sinful calmness,
Stir us with your saving name.
Baptize with your fiery Spirit,
Crown our lives with tongues of flame.

God, who in your holy gospel
Wills that all should truly live,
Make us sense our share of failure,
Our tranquillity forgive.
Teach us courage as we struggle
In all liberating strife.
Lift the smallness of our vision
By your own abundant life.

God, who still a sword delivers
Rather than a placid peace,
With your sharpened word disturb us,
From complacency release!
Save us now from satisfaction,
When we privately are free,
Yet are undisturbed in spirit
By our neighbor's misery.
