15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Processional Hymn - Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
Holy God, we praise thy name.
Lord of all, we bow before thee.
All on earth thy scepter claim;
All in heav’n above adore thee.
Infinite thy vast domain,
Everlasting is thy reign.
Infinite thy vast domain,
Everlasting is thy reign.
Hark, the loud celestial hymn,
Angel choirs above are raising.
Cherubim and seraphim,
In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord:
Holy, holy, holy Lord.
Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord:
Holy, holy, holy Lord.
Lo! the apostolic train
Joins, the sacred name to hallow.
Prophets swell the loud refrain,
And the white-robed martyrs follow,
And, from morn to setting of sun,
Through the Church the song goes on.
And, from morn to setting of sun,
Through the Church the song goes on.
Holy Father, Holy Son,
Holy Spirit, three we name thee;
While in essence only One,
Undivided God, we claim thee,
And adoring bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
And adoring bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
First Reading - Amos 7:12-15
Amaziah, priest of Bethel, said to Amos, “Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!
There earn your bread by prophesying, but never again prophesy in Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.”
Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.
The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’”
Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 85
R. LORD, let us see your kindness; LORD grant us your salvation.
Now I will hear what God proclaims, the Lord who speaks of peace.
Near to us now, God saving love for those who believe.
R. LORD, let us see your kindness; LORD grant us your salvation.
Mercy and faithfulness shall meet, in justice and peace, embrace.
Truth shall blossom from the earth as the heavens rejoice.
R. LORD, let us see your kindness; LORD grant us your salvation.
Our God shall grant abundant gifts, the earth shall yield its fruit.
Justice shall March before our God and guide us to peace.
R. LORD, let us see your kindness; LORD grant us your salvation.
Second Reading - 2 Ephesians 1:3-15
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him.
In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved.
In him we have redemption by his blood, the forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the riches of his grace that he lavished upon us.
In all wisdom and insight, he has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his favor that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of times, to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth.
In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ.
In him you also, who have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him, were sealed with the promised holy Spirit, which is the first installment of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s possession, to the praise of his glory.
Gospel - Mark 6:7-13
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits.
He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick—no food, no sack, no money in their belts.
They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.
He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave.
Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.”
So they went off and preached repentance.
The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them
Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish
Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.
Communion Hymn - Draw Near
Draw near, draw near!
Take the Body of your Lord.
Draw near, draw near!
Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
Draw near and take the Body of the Lord,
and drink with faith the Blood for you outpoured.
Saved by Christ’s Body and his holy Blood,
with souls refreshed we give our thanks to God.
Draw near, draw near!
Take the Body of your Lord.
Draw near, draw near!
Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
Christ our Redeemer, God’s eternal Son,
has by his cross and blood the vict’ry won.
He spent his life for greatest and for least.
Praise Christ the Paschal Victim, Christ the Priest.
Draw near, draw near!
Take the Body of your Lord.
Draw near, draw near!
Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere
and claim the promise of salvation here.
Christ rules our hearts, and all his saints defends;
he gives believers life that never ends.
Draw near, draw near!
Take the Body of your Lord.
Draw near, draw near!
Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
With heav’nly bread Christ makes the hungry whole;
his living water fills the thirsting soul.
Alpha-Omega, unto whom shall bow all
nations of the earth, be with us now.
Draw near, draw near!
Take the Body of your Lord.
Draw near, draw near!
Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
Recessional Hymn - As a Fire Is Meant for Burning
As a fire is meant for burning with a bright and warming flame
So the Church is meant for mission, giving glory to God's name.
As we witness to the gospel, we would build a bridge of care,
Joining hands across the nations, finding neighbors ev'rywhere.
We are learners; we are teachers; we are pilgrims on the way.
We are seekers; we are givers; we are vessels made of clay.
By our gentle loving actions, we would show that Christ is light.
In a humble list'ning Spirit, we would live to God's delight.
As a green bud in the springtime is a sign of life renewed,
So may we be signs of oneness 'mid earth's peoples, many-hued.
As a rainbow lights the heavens when a storm is past and gone,
May our lives reflect the radiance of God's new and glorious dawn.
