Second Sunday of Advent

Processional Song - Come, Thou Font of Every Blessing

Come Thou fount of ev'ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise mine Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I'm come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy grace Lord like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

First Reading -
Isaiah 11:1-10

On that day, a shoot shall sprout
from the stump of Jesse,
and from his roots a bud shall blossom.
The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him:
a spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
a spirit of counsel and of strength,
a spirit of knowledge and of
fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be
the fear of the LORD.
Not by appearance shall he judge,
nor by hearsay shall he decide,
but he shall judge the poor with justice,
and decide aright for the land's afflicted.
He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his
lips he shall slay the wicked.
Justice shall be the band around his waist,
and faithfulness a belt upon his hips.
Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them.
The cow and the bear shall be neighbors,
together their young shall rest;
the lion shall eat hay like the ox.
The baby shall play by the cobra's den,
and the child lay his hand on the adder's lair.
There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain;
for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD,
as water covers the sea.
On that day, the root of Jesse,
set up as a signal for the nations,
the Gentiles shall seek out,
for his dwelling shall be glorious.

Responsorial Psalm -
Psalm 72

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.
O God, give your judgment to the the king,
to a king's son your justice,
that he may judge your people in justice,
and your poor in right judgment.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.
In his days shall justice flourish,
and great peace till the moon is no more.
He shall rule from sea to sea,
from the River to the bounds of the earth.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.
For he shall save the needy when they cry,
to the poor, and those who are helpless.
He will have pity on the weak and the needy,
the save the lives of the needy.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.
May his name endure forever,
his name continue like the sun.
Every tribe shall be blessed in him,
all nations shall call him blessed.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

Second Reading - Romans 15:4-9

Brothers and sisters:
Whatever was written previously was written for our instruction,
that by endurance and by the encouragement of the Scriptures
we might have hope.
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus,
that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.
For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.
As it is written:
Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles
and sing praises to your name.

Gospel -
Matthew 3:1-12

John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea
and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"
It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said:
A voice of one crying out in the desert,
Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.

John wore clothing made of camel's hair
and had a leather belt around his waist.
His food was locusts and wild honey.
At that time Jerusalem, all Judea,
and the whole region around the Jordan
were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River
as they acknowledged their sins.

When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers!
Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves,
'We have Abraham as our father.'
For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit
will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I.
I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand. He will clear his threshing floor
and gather his wheat into his barn,
but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Offertory - Waiting Here for You

If faith can move the mountains
Let the mountains move
We come with expectation
Waiting here for You
Waiting here for You

You're the Lord of all creation
And still You know my heart
The Author of salvation
You've loved us from the start

Waiting here for You with our hands
Lifted high in praise
And it's You we adore
Singing alleluia

You are ev'rything You've promised
Your faithfulness is true
We're desp'rate for Your presence
All we need is You

Singing alleluia alleluia (2X)

Communion - Why

What can I say of Your love
That has not already been said
Were I to tell all the things You have done
I would run out of breath
So many songs have been sung
But how could I praise You enough
So here’s another one

Why

You love me like You love me, I’ll never know
Why
You love me like You love me
Your love is
Better than silver, better than gold
Better than anything I’ve ever known
I’ll never know
Why
You love me like You love me
I’ll never know

Real joy doesn’t always feel like laughter
Blessings don’t always come from
The places I thought they would
Your love doesn’t look anything
Like it does in Hollywood
You don’t walk out when it’s over
That’s when I need You the most
I’ll never know

Even when I turn my back, You love me
Even when I curse Your name, You love me
And even when I broke Your heart, You love me
You love me, You love me

And when I make my bed in hell, You love me
When I don’t even love myself, You love me
You’re not the kind to cut and run, You love me
You love me, You love me

Recessional - King of Heaven

Jesus let Your kingdom come here
Let Your will be done here in us
Jesus there is no one greater
You alone are Savior show the world Your love

King of heaven come down
King of heaven come now
Let Your glory reign shining like the day
King of heaven come
King of heaven rise up
Who can stand against us
You are strong to save in Your mighty name
King of heaven come

We are children of Your mercy
Rescued for Your glory
We cry Jesus set our hearts towards You
That ev'ry eye would see You lifted high
