Processional Hymn - 483 - Forty Days and Forty Nights

Forty days and forty nights
You were fasting in the wild;
Forty days and forty nights
Tempted, and yet undefiled.

Shall not we your sorrow share
And from worldly joys abstain,
Fasting with unceasing prayer,
Strong with you to suffer pain?

Then if Satan on us press,
Flesh or spirit to assail,
Victor in the wilderness,
Grant we may not faint nor fail!

So shall we have peace divine:
Holier gladness ours shall be;
Round us, too, shall angels shine,
Such as served you faithfully.

Keep, O keep us, Savior dear,
Ever constant by your side;
That with you we may appear
At the eternal Eastertide.

Text: George H. Smyttan, 1822-1870, alt.

Homily (please sit)

Nicene Creed (please stand)

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

General Intercessions:

After each prayer, respond: Lord, hear our prayer.

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Offertory Hymn - Let Us Return to the Lord

Come, let us return to the Lord.
You who are torn, God will heal you;
You who are crushed, God will bind you up.

  1. Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord,
For God’s appearing is as sure as the dawn.

  2. God will come just as the faithful showers fall,
Just as the spring rains that water the earth.

  3. God desires steadfast love, not sacrifice,
Knowledge of God instead of offerings.

Sanctus

The Sanctus acclamation is sung to conclude the introduction of the eucharistic prayer.

(all sing)
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Memorial Acclamation

The acclamation follows the priest’s invitation: The Mystery of Faith.

(all sing)
Save us, Savior of the world,
for by your Cross and Resurrection,
you have set us free.

Doxology:

The Eucharistic prayer concludes:

Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.

All (sung): Amen, amen, amen!
Amen, amen, amen!

Our Father

All: Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed by your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Priest: ... and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

Sign of Peace

Priest The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All: And with your spirit.
To each other: Peace be with you.
(all may exchange a sign of peace)

Lamb of God (sung)

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

Invitation to Communion

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

Communion Hymn - Hear Us, Almighty Lord

Hear us, Almighty Lord,
show us your mercy.
Sinners we stand here before you.

1. Jesus, our Savior,
Lord of all the nations,
Christ our redeemer,
hear the prayers we offer,
Spare us and save us,
comfort us in sorrow.

2. Word of the Father,
keystone of God’s building,
Source of our gladness,
gateway to the Kingdom,
Free us in mercy
from the sins that bind us.

3. God of compassion,
Lord of might and splendor,
Graciously listen,
hear our cries of anguish.
Touch us and heal us
where our sins have wounded.

4. Humbly confessing
that we have offended,
Stripped of illusions,
naked in our sorrow,
Pardon, Lord Jesus,
those your blood has ransomed.

5. Innocent captive,
you were led to slaughter,
Sentenced by sinners whey they brought false witness,
Keep from damnation
those your death has rescued.

Communion Hymn 2 (if needed) - 473 - Parce Domine

Parce Domine,
parce populo tuo:
ne in aeternum
ira scaris nobis.

(Translation:
Spare us, gracious Lord,
spare your people, who have sinned:
spare us, lest we face your reproach forever.)

  1. Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your merciful love;
    according to your great compassion,
    blot out my transgression.

  2. Wash me completely from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.

  3. My transgressions, truly I now them;
my sin is always before me.

  4. Against you, you alone, have I sinned;
what is evil in your sight I have done.

  5. Create a pure heart for me, O God;
renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Recessional Hymn - 469 - Remember You Are Dust

Turn away from sin
and be faithful to the Gospel.
Remember you are dust
and to dust you shall return.

Repent, the kingdom is at hand.
Repent, the kingdom is at hand.

v. 1 Rend your hearts, not your garments.
v. 2 Blow the trumpet in Zion.

Now, the acceptable time.
Now, the acceptable time.
