Our mass parts for the season of Advent come from the Roman Missal. These can be found in our hymnal, beginning with #169.

Processional Hymn - Advent Entrance Hymn, Week 4

(Antiphon) Drop down dew from above, you heavens, and let clouds rain down the just one. Let the earth be opened, and bring forth a Savior.

(all) O come, Desire of nations, bind in one the hearts of humankind. O bid our sad divisions cease, and be for us our King of Peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to you Israel.

(all) O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

Homily (please sit)

Nicene Creed (please stand)

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

General Intercessions:

After each prayer, respond: Lord, hear our prayer.

Prayer for Our Lady of Angels Parish

Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples.
You have charged us through your Son, Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern your will for the spiritual renewal of our parish.
Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve you.
We entrust our parish family to the care of Mary, our mother, and ask for her intercession and guidance, as we strive to build a parish that loves God, embraces all people, and shares the Gospel joyfully.

Offertory Hymn - 451 - Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung!
From Jesse’s lineage coming,
As seers of old have sung.
It came, a blossom bright,
Amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.

Isaiah ‘twas foretold it,
The Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it,
The Virgin Mother kind.
To show God’s love aright,
She bore to us a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

This Flow’r, whose fragrance tender
With sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor
The darkness ev’rywhere.
True man, yet very God,
From sin and death he saves us,
And lightens every load.

All: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right and just.

Sanctus

The Sanctus acclamation is sung to conclude the introduction of the eucharistic prayer.

(all sing)
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Memorial Acclamation

The acclamation follows the priest’s invitation: The Mystery of Faith.

(all sing)
When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
until you come again.

Doxology:

The Eucharistic prayer concludes:

Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.
All (sung): Amen, amen, amen!
Amen, amen, amen!

Our Father

All: Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed by your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Priest: ... and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

Sign of Peace

Priest The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All: And with your spirit.
To each other: Peace be with you.
(all may exchange a sign of peace)

Lamb of God (sung)

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

Invitation to Communion

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

(While Holy Communion is reserved for Catholics, persons of all faiths wishing to receive a blessing may participate in the
communion procession. Place your arms across your chest to indicate you would like to receive this blessing.)

Communion Hymn - 415 - My Soul in Stillness Waits

For you, O Lord, my soul in stillness waits. Truly my hope is in you.

  1. O Lord of Light, our only hope of glory, your radiance shines in all who look to you.
Come light the hearts of all in dark and shadow.

  2. O Spring of Joy, rain down upon our spirits. Our thirsty hearts are yearning for your Word.
Come, make us whole; be comfort to our hearts.

  3. O Root of Life, implant your seed within us, and in your advent draw us all to you,
Our hope reborn in dying and in rising.

  4. O Key of Knowledge, guide us in our pilgrimage, we ever seek, yet unfulfilled remain.
Open to us the pathway of your peace.

  5. Come, let us bow before the God who made us.
Let every heart be opened to the Lord, for we are all the people of his hand.

  6. Here we shall meet the makers of the heavens, creator of the mountains and the seas,
Lord of the stars and present to us now.

Communion Song 2 (if needed) - Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All

Jesus! my Lord, my God, my all!
How can I love Thee as I ought?
And, how revere this wondrous gift,
So far surpassing hope or thought?
Sweet Sacrament! we Thee adore!
O, make us love Thee more and more!
O, make us love Thee more and more!

Had I but Mary's sinless heart
To love Thee with, my dearest King!
O with what bursts of fervent praise
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!
Sweet Sacrament! we Thee adore!
O, make us love Thee more and more!
O, make us love Thee more and more!

O! see upon the altar placed
The victim of divinest love!
Let all the earth below adore,
And join the choirs of heav’n above.
Sweet Sacrament! we Thee adore!
O, make us love Thee more and more!
O, make us love Thee more and more!

Alma Redemptoris Mater

Alma Redemptóris Mater,
quae pérvia caeli porta manes,
Et stella maris,
succúrre cadénti
súrgere qui curat pópulo:
Tu quae genuísti,
natúra miránte,
tuum sanctum Genitórem:
Virgo prius ac postérius,
Gabriélis ab ore
sumens illud Ave,
peccatórum miserére.

Translation:
Kind mother of the Redeemer, who remain the open gate of heaven and the star of the sea: help your falling people who want to rise, you who bore your holy Parent, while nature marveled: a Virgin before and after, receiving that ‘Ave’ from Gabriel’s mouth, have mercy on [us] sinners.

Recessional - 423 - Awake! Awake and Greet the New Morn

  1. Awake! Awake, and greet the new morn,
    For angels herald its dawning.
Sing out your joy for soon he is born,
Behold the Child of our longing!
Come as a baby weak and poor,
    To bring all hearts together,
He opens wide the heav’ly door
And lives now inside us forever.

4. Rejoice, rejoice, take heart in the night,
Though dark the winter and cheerless,
The rising sun shall crown you with light;
Be strong and loving and fearless.
Love be our song and love our prayer
And love our endless story.
May God fill every day we share
And bring us at last into glory.
